Billy Glew
Billy has almost 30 years of experience working professionally in sound and music. He owns and manages northwest UK-based Robinwood Studios which he converted from a ruined factory floor into a busy workplace. Billy’s studio offers services including sound design, Foley, music recording and rehearsals. The studio includes filmmaking facilities which Billy has used to produce commercial videos and his own short films. Billy’s films have been selected for several national and international film festivals.
Billy has worked as a professional musician in electric and acoustic-based line-ups from solo to bands, from session musician to band leader, playing a wide selection of styles incorporating rock, pop, experimental, jazz, blues, folk amongst others. He recently completed his PhD research-practice thesis at Lancaster University, which focuses on dream sequences in film titled Screen Dreams: A practice-based investigation of filmic dream sequences, using the dream theories of Freud, Jung, Revonsuo and Hobson. Billy’s day job is working as a lecturer in film production at the University of Salford, specialising in film sound.
When he isn’t playing with recording equipment and guitars, Billy likes to spend time with his friends and family, take photographs, read, watch and shoot films, and learn how to drum.
